Specialisation Committee

The Specialisation Committee (SpezKo) of the Vetsuisse Faculty Bern consists of 8 qualified specialists from the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) and/or the American Board of Veterinary Specialisation (ABVS).

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Supervising all offered specialisation programmes.
  • Ensuring quality assurance through annual evaluation of all ongoing residency programmes.
  • Serving as a point of contact for programme coordinators and candidates in case of difficulties with programme implementation.
  • Awarding grants for research projects carried out within the framework of a residency programme.
  • Providing financial support to residents for attending further education and training events required as part of the specialisation.

Financial support and important deadlines

Participants in an FVH or residency specialisation programme (standard, alternate or other) must be registered with the SpezKo in order to be eligible for support.

Reimbursement for Congresses / Courses:

  • Submissions are possible throughout the year.
  • Applications must be submitted AFTER attending the event.
  • A basic requirement for reimbursements is that the relevant department covers 50% of the costs. Generally, the department should facilitate the reimbursement beforehand. Reimbursement from SpezKo will subsequently be made directly to the department.

Reimbursement for Internships:

  • Applications must first be submitted to the Tierspital Foundation. In case of rejection, an application can be made to SpezKo.
  • Applications must ALWAYS be submitted BEFORE the trip. (Submissions are possible throughout the year)

Guidelines for request of support for continuous education

Grants for research projects:

  • Submissions are ongoing; however, applications MUST ALWAYS be submitted BEFORE the start of the project.
  • Evaluation/confirmation takes place annually in November (Submission deadline: 31.10.2024).
