PD Dr. Jens Becker from the Ruminant Clinic at the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern and his project partners have received funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation's “Weave” program in collaboration with the Swedish funding organization Formas as part of an interdisciplinary research project.

Thomas Lutz has been chairing the Medical Professions Commission (MEBEKO) for over a year now. This is the first time that a veterinarian has headed this federal commission, which brings together professionals, administrators, and politicians on behalf of the Federal Council.

To promote the mental health of veterinary students, the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern offers a resilience course. Various topics such as self-reflection and stress management are discussed in an interactive workshop setting.

This two-day event will focus on our in-house technologies for multiplexing imaging (image acquisition and image analysis), exploring our advanced platforms; Hyperion, MACSima, Visium, and Visiopharm, MACS iQ, and Visium Software. Please see below the program (subject to change).

Based on the teaching evaluation, the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern honors Nicolas Diserens and Eveline Studer for outstanding achievements in teaching.

At its meeting on September 15, the faculty council approved fourteen dissertations, awarding twelve female veterinarians and two male veterinarians their doctoral degrees. The candidates fulfilled all criteria and are now entitled to use the title “Dr. med. vet.”

The responsible Vetsuisse Commission has presented this year's award to Marina Maurizio (Institute of Animal Pathology, Bern) and Patricia Beer (Small Animal Surgery, Zurich). The award was presented on September 4 during the Science & BBQ Day in Zurich.

On July 4, the Vetsuisse Council appointed Michèle Bodmer and Patrik Zanolari as Associate Professors of Ruminant Health and Co-Head of the Department of Herd Medicine on a job-sharing basis.

After a ten-year break, the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern hosted an open day at the end of June: Around 3,000 interested people were given a hands-on insight into modern, science-based veterinary medicine.

This course is ideal for veterinarians building a solid foundation in sonoanatomy and develop practical skills in ultrasound-guided techniques. Participants will gain hands-on experience, perfecting needle-to-probe alignment, and applying these techniques in clinical settings. All the most common locoregional techniques will be reviewed and practiced in only 2 days.

Over 1000 participants from 49 countries came to Bern for the 16th European Symposium of Porcine Health Management from 21 to 23 May 2025 for a diverse scientific program with over 60 lectures and more than 300 poster presentations.

The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) has named Rupert Bruckmaier a Fellow of its association. The award will be presented on June 24, 2025, at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Faculty Board has re-elected Sven Rottenberg as Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Pathobiology (DIP) on the recommendation of the Department Council. The Head of the Institute of Animal Pathology has headed the department since 2017.

The Vetsuisse Faculty of Bern celebrated its 58 youngest Master's graduates on April 4. After five and a half years, the veterinarians completed their studies with the title «Master of Veterinary Medicine».

The Alumni Master's Prize for the best veterinary Master's thesis in 2024 goes to Anna Jenny for her work “Comparison of Digital and Manual Evaluation of the Proliferation Marker Ki-67, including the Estab-lished Grid and Proposed Percentage Methods, in Canine Oral Melanocytic Tumors”.

Excellent research and a good reputation for teaching have contributed to this ranking. The QS World University Ranking analyzed 418 veterinary departments - the Vetsuisse Faculty is ranked in the top ten for the sixth time in a row.
